Frequently Asked Questions
What is a Tyre Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS)?
A TPMS is an electronic system designed to monitor air pressure inside pneumatic tyres in real time. The system reports tyre pressure information to the driver via a monitor and will provide alerts instantly when there is a problem detected.
Promata TPMS can help maintain the right tyre pressure which is crucial for vehicle safety, performance and fuel efficiency.
What is the difference between external and internal sensors?
External sensors screw onto the valve cap, making them ideal for DIY installation. They're lightweight, IP67-rated and feature replaceable batteries - making them convenient. However, they can be more prone to damage from impacts like rocks.
Internal sensors however are installed inside the tyre and replace the valve stem. They are shielded from external elements and provide more accurate pressure readings. While they require professional installation, being hidden prevents damage making it ideal for heavy use.
What to do if I have Promata external sensors and I rotate my tyres?
Simply unscrew the sensors from the current tyres and re-screw them onto the correct position on the tyres.
What to do if I have Promata internal sensors and I rotate my tyres?
For internal sensors: there are two methods.
1) Use tyre swap function
2) Use pairing function
If you own Promata Internal sensors (available from 2022), either method is fine though the pairing function may be easier.
If you own Schrader sensors (available before October 2022), we strongly recommend using the Tyre Swap function - Choose two tyres and swap their location on the display.
Are replacement Promata TPMS sensors available?
Yes, replacement sensors can be purchased here. These sensors are universal and do not have location marks. You can program/pair the spare sensor onto your desired location.
What is the battery life for Promata TPMS sensors?
Battery life depends on usage. In general, the battery life for external sensors is 2 years. The battery life for internal sensors is 5 years.
Are Promata TPMS sensor batteries replaceable?
The external sensors have replaceable batteries. Users can purchase the same type of batteries and replace old ones.
The internal sensors’ batteries are not replaceable. The sensor needs to be replaced when the battery gets depleted in around 5 years.
Do the internal sensors automatically program to the tyre location they are installed in, or do I need to program them in?
Internal sensors are not automatic. A new sensor will need to be programmed to the display for the system to recognise it. NOTE: these sensors are compatible with Promata TPMS only.
How does the Mata 1E / Mata 1 display show the trailer and spare tyres?
There are three pages on the screen: Car page (4 tyres max), trailer page (4 tyres max) and spare tyre page (2 tyres max). The display has automatic trailer hook/drop recognition. If the display detects the trailer sensors, it will automatically scroll between the car screen and the trailer screen. If there is no trailer, the display will not scroll to the trailer screen.
The display does not normally show the spare tyre screen. However, an alert will show if spare tyre pressures are too low. Users can manually check each screen by cycling through them.
I need a unique set-up for my TPMS kit and need some advice?
If you have any questions or if you need a custom kit, please email us with some details: vehicle + trailer set up, how many tyres, internal or external sensors in which locations and approximate length of vehicle.
Truck Internal Sensor Pairing Key Information?
Since the internal sensor battery isn’t replaceable, the sensors will only emit signals once per hour when stationary and once per 4 minutes when moving over 20km per hour to preserve the battery’s life.
To correctly pair internal sensors:
1. Drive the vehicle for 20km per hour for about 5 minutes until tyre information is refreshed.
2. Pair the sensor using the inflate/deflate method and finish pairing within 4 minutes after stopping.
