Where To Mount Your TPMS Display Monitors

Where To Mount Your TPMS Display Monitors

Once you’ve got your TPMS display monitor, the next step is deciding where to mount it. The ideal spot depends largely on the type of display unit and the layout of your vehicle’s dashboard. Thankfully, most TPMS displays fall into a few common types. Whether you’ve chosen a solar-powered dashboard monitor, a plug-in cigarette lighter display or a wired unit with a fixed mount - knowing the right placement can make a big difference. A well-positioned display not only keeps your dashboard looking neat but also ensures you can easily monitor tyre pressure and temperature at a glance.

Mounting Cigarette-Style TPMS Displays

Cigarette-style TPMS displays are among the easiest to install - simply plug them into your vehicle’s 12V cigarette lighter socket and you’re good to go. This type of display is popular because it combines power and convenience in one unit. Most drivers place the display in the main dashboard socket so it’s easy to glance at while driving. However, if your vehicle has multiple sockets (such as near the centre console or side panels), pick one that offers the best viewing angle without blocking other essential controls.

Promata’s cigarette monitors feature an all angle view hence can be mounted in any place where the screen is visible and you’ll be able to see - even at an angle.

Keep in mind while this setup is simple, it takes up your cigarette socket. If you frequently use it for charging devices, consider adding a dual-port adaptor or splitter so you can power both at once.

Mounting Solar-Powered TPMS Displays

Solar-powered TPMS displays are designed for simplicity and efficiency. Since they charge automatically with sunlight, it eliminates the need for cables or constant recharging. Mounting these displays correctly ensures they remain easy to read from the driver’s seat.

Please avoid placing the display monitor in an area of the dashboard that gets very hot. The best place to mount a solar-powered TPMS display is on the dashboard - near an airvent and the car’s A pillar. This ensures they get ample light to remain charged but avoid direct damage to the LCD screen. Image below shows the best places (shaded in green) to place the TPMS display monitor:

Promata’s TPMS monitors use very efficient solar panels that charge on the smallest amount of sunlight hence don’t need direct exposure to stay charged. Most LCD screens on the market can’t take exposure to the level of heat in Australian summers for extended periods of time.

Also, please avoid placing it in the wedge where the windscreen meets the dashboard. This is where temperatures can soar in hot Australian summers.

When positioning the display, angle it so the screen is clearly visible but not reflecting sunlight into your eyes. One of the key benefits of a solar-powered TPMS is its flexibility. If you need to reposition it, you can easily do so to get a better view. Promata’s units come with an 3M adhesive pad and Velcro which is removable allowing you to reposition but at the same time more than strong enough to remain firm and steady - even on bumpy roads.

Please note our Mata 1 has a positive LCD display (white background with black text) and is easier to read during the day. Our Mata 2 has a negative LCD display (black background with white text) and has the advantage of being a little more heat resistant.

Mounting Larger Screen TPMS Displays (Bracket or Holder Type)

Larger-screen TPMS displays offer enhanced visibility and allows you to view data for more tyres - ideal for trucks, caravans and fleets where monitoring multiple tyres at once is essential. Because of their size and weight, these units typically come with a mounting bracket or holder - allowing you to secure the display safely.

The most common mounting option for these displays is the dashboard mounts like the image below:

Another common mounting position is the top mount - where the TPMS is placed near the rear view mirror on top of your vehicle. This is shown in the image below:

For those who have space, the other place to mount the display is on a side panel like the image below:

Choose the option that provides a clear line of sight without obstructing your view of the road or blocking key controls.

When setting it up, ensure the display is stable and not vibrating excessively while driving - a loose mount can make the screen hard to read. If your TPMS kit includes a power cable, plan the routing neatly along the edge of the dashboard to avoid clutter.

For long-haul or fleet use, a permanent mount might be the better option. These mounts can be fixed in place using screws or stronger adhesives, providing extra stability for rougher driving conditions.

Conclusion

Whether you’re using a cigarette-style plug-in, a solar-powered display or a larger screen with bracket mount, proper placement ensures clear visibility, reliable operation and a tidy setup.

Our TPMS kits are designed with flexibility in mind, giving you mounting options that suit your vehicle type and driving needs. Whether you’re setting up a system for a family car, caravan, truck or fleet - a well-mounted display keeps vital tyre information within easy reach.
